Manual elevation calculator: a field shortcut, not official ballistics
Two current community sources report the same simplified relationship. Use it when you need a manual check, but prefer the in-game calculator whenever it is available.

Enter the target distance in kilometres and the powder-charge count. The community-reported relationship is elevation = distance × 12 ÷ charges. Each charge is reported to support 5 km at the 60° limit, so a result over 60° means that charge count is outside the reported range.
Elevation = distance × 12 ÷ charges
3 charges → reported maximum 15 km at 60°.
Measure range from the current Nest
Complete target location first, then draw the final red line from the current Iron Nest marker. Record the distance in kilometres.
Choose the loaded charge count
Select one to six powder charges. The reported maximum is 5 km per charge, with 60° at that limit.
Calculate and check the limit
Multiply range by 12 and divide by charges. If the result exceeds 60°, increase the charge count or return to the in-game calculator.
Copy the complete firing note
Record bearing, distance, charge count, calculated elevation, shell and gun side together. A bare elevation number is too easy to attach to the wrong shot.

- The loaded charge count and gun elevation match the same firing note.
This formula is cross-source-confirmed at the community level, not officially documented and not owned-tested by this site. A patch could change it; use the in-game calculator as the authority when accessible.
